Evaluation 3.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

For this part of my evaluation I will be looking at both Bauer and BBC magazine and Immediate Media Co, because they both come across as the best distributers that mostly suited my magazine. This is mainly
Bauer.
Bauer media is one of the biggest publishers in the country and Europe's largest privately owned publishing groups, with an expertise in not jut magazines but TV, radio and online sites as well.
Without a doubt I would want my magazine to be published by them, mainly because they are a world wide company that offers up to 300 magazines in 15 different countries, and would most probably be successful publishing my R&B magazine. They also have offices located all around the world, including countries like Germany, USA, Spain, France, Austria, United Kingdom, Mexico, Chino and many more. Their business is built on influential and powerful media brands that involve millions of personal relationships with engaged readers and listeners. They have main stragies to connect their target audiences and have a world wide portfolio of influential brandes, that advantages them over their competitors.

Magazines like 'Kerrang!' and 'Q' have been and are published by Bauer, and eventhough these genres of magazines are not linked with my genre, I would still be extremely happy if this company published my magazine. This is mainly because there could be a gap in the market for an R&B and POP magazine, as they haven't got a combined currently, and if thats the case then they'll be encouraged more to publish it, as they will be making more money.

The business is also known from launching two very popular magazines, that are stil currently extremely po[ular, called 'Grazia' and 'Closer', which were pulished in 2002 and 2005.
Bauer also has a very successful radio business, first starting in 1953 which was Londons dance station Kiss FM, now names Kiss 100, (which still is a very popular!). Which then followed on to Liverpool's Radio City and Melody FM, which transformed into the market leading Magic 105.4.
The company them brought a swmall magazine, named 'For Him' in 1994, which is now transformed into the core of the best-selling international multi-platform brand 'FHM'.
On top of all this, the business then acquired a digital music TV channel called 'The Box' which allowed them to enter a small screen business, and has now grown into 'Box Television', a seven channel joint venture TV business with channel 4. Music channels such as 'Q TV', '4Music', 'Kiss TV', 'Kerrang! TV', 'Smash Hits TV' and 'Music TV' are still currently viewed and are very successful.
Today, Bauer Media still holds a successful business that spans over 80 influential brand names, which covers a diverse range of interests including 'Heat' (which is the weekly must have celeb magazine), 'Yours', 'Pop' and 'More!.

BBC Magazine and Immediate Media Co.
BBC Magazine is a music magazine published every month, in the United Kingdom by BBC Worldwide, another commercial additional to the BBC.
The magazine is mainly based within classical music, however there are sections on jazz and world music. Each edition of the magazine also comes with a free audio CD, which usually includes BBC recordings of full-length works. BBC magazines have also got a great variety of popular magazines like 'Top Gear', which is shown on the TV and has good a very large interested audience, 'Top of the Pops' magazine, mainly based for young children/teenagers which is full of music artists and free gifts and other magazines that are not however linked to music, for example 'healthy eating food' and 'Gardner's World'.
It has combined businesses with the new force in comsumer Immediate media Co, Origin Publishing and Magicalia.

Immediate Media Co.
Immediate Media Co are also looking to edxpand there business, with an exciting mix of market-leading brands and technology expertise, the company combines a strogn publishing heritages with digital platforms and entrepreneurial flair.
Containing 750 staff in London and Bristol, Immediate Media Co publishes 34 websites and 50 magazines, including 1 million subscribers, and a brand reach of 11 million UK comsumers.
They publish some of the most UK known magazines which include Radio times, Gardner's World, Top Gear, CBeebies, BBC History and Good Food. Alongside this, they have highly succesful specialists titles like Focus, Perfect Wedding, and Junior, and as well as this they have leading digtal platform brands like MadeForMums.com and LoveYourHair.com.

Relating back to my magazine, I would again be very happy if this business/company published my music magazine as they concentrate mostly of classical music magazine, which is the reverse to mine.
This could be a great advantage as there is more likihood of my magazine being accepted in the industry, if published by BBC magazines and Immediate Media, as it is different to classical music. However, they already publish 'Top of the Pops' which is a very succesful Pop magazine, which could clash very much with mine and could be a risk for the company, in relation to selling my magazine and making money at the same time.

After looking at possible publishers, I am now going to research my target based magazine, which is 'Vibe', and find out more about there publisher and information about there magazine.
Vibe
Vibe magazine is based around a music and entertainment magazine, founded by the producer Quincy Jones. He launched Vibe in 1993, in partinership with Time Inc, however after shutting down productions in summer 2009, Vibe was purchased by the private equity investment fund InterMedia Partners and is now currently issued quarterly with double covers, larger online presence, which is aided by the Vibe Lifestyle Network, a group of entertainment/music websites under the Vibe brand. It was pretty hard and confusing to find out certain information about who published this magazine, as the magazine is based in the united states, so I was enable to view a copy for myself, which means I had to base most of my information from the internet.

Overall.
Looking at both Publishing companies that I have chosen to base my descision on, for the company that I would most likely want to distribute my magazine, I have decided I would rather have Buaer than BBC magazine/Immediate Media Co. I have come up with this decision for many reason, mainly because they have little other magazines that base their genre around R&B, primarily meaning that their is a gap in there market for my magazine. I also dont want to risk having BBC Magazine and Immediate Media Co as my publisher as there main audience may not like the genre of my magazine, as they are mainly used to classical magazines, that are based for an older audience. Eventhough there is a possible gap in the market in this company, BBC already have a very popular music magazine, other than classical music, which is 'Top of the Pops' and I feel that it would be challenging to compete with this magazine, as it has such a great audiuence and possibly a bigger target aimed age gap as well. I also think Buaer would be better because they have similar popular genres, like Rock and Indie, which means there main audience likes a variety of genres, and they currently do not have a magazine that is aimed at R&B which gives me a gap to introduce my music magazine.
