NME Magazines.
Brief history of the magazine..
New Musical Express, commonly known as NME, is a music publication in the UK, which has been published weekly since March 1925 and was the first British paper to include a singles chart.By the 1970s, the magazine had became the best-selling Brish music newspaper. NME started off as a music newspaper, and gradually moved nearer to a magazine format in the 1980's, then changed from newspaper in 1998.
What is the typical content..

The typically content on the magazine will consist of the main artist, which is mainly a single singer or a band, whilst having their name/band name as the most important title on the page, apart from the title of the magazine. A good example is the front cover on the right, showing the artist 'Mia' in the centre on the page, and her name to the side, in bold, making her name stand out the most. The front cover won't be too busy, however wont be empty either, usally using a burst to show off the interesting stuff inside. We also see different colour schemes each week as well, depending on which sort/type of artist is placed on the front and what inspires them. I like this idea as it can be more indiviudal for the artists taste and likes, and not always the producers way off thinking.
Also, the magazine has a typical layout, which is very similar to a newspaper as most of the news sections has a colour scheme of black and white.
Unlike any other magazine, NME doesnt have a contents page stating what is on each page, however instead, has a page that lists what artists are featured in the magazine and what page they are on. There have been a wide range of artists that have appeared in the magazine, which consists of about 70 pages, these include Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Oasis, Kings of Leon and many more.
Who is the typical reader..
As I dont read this type of magazine, it was hard to comment on what type of audience would read this magazine, so I used the National readership Survey (NRS) to help me find out the information I was searching for.
From this it shows that this magazione is more popluar with males, as more males have brought it, in comparison to females and in totaly 253,000 people brought this magazine between October 2010 and September 2011. However, we cant set this as the number of people that have the magazine, during this time, as many people could have read it in a shop or through a copy of a friends. The website also tells me the sorts of age range that have brought this magazine, and a big margine tells me that 15-44 and 45+ buy it the most.
Magazines Housestyle..
NME's has a very conventional housesytle that most magazines follow. Every copy of this magazine, we can see that the masthead, which is NME, is found situated in the top fair left hand corner. This follows a conventional imagine of a magazine, as the titles are always placed in an area where the audience can notice it straight away, and its bold enough to stand out from the rest. The masthead is also in the colour red, making up one of the three theme colours. Looking at most of the NME magazine, I get certain impressions of what sort of genre it is aimed at, as most of the images are unusual, 'in your face' and aggressive; this is not with all the images however, but I come to the conclusion that this particular magazine wants to creat an an indie/rock genre for the use of the artists as well.
Who produces and distributes the magazine..
IPC, which stands for International Publishing Company, produced NME and Time Warner distributed it. NME also reaches out on media aspects like 'nme.com', 'NME radio' and 'NMETV', with live events and ward ceremonies as well.
How are social groups represented..
By looking at most of the images and context used within this magazine, it is clear that the social group which is represented is based around the genre of rock/indie/punk music. This type of genre is being represented and sterotyped on the things they are doing on the front cover so they could come across as aggressive, wild and unusally sorts of people and groups. I know this from the types of colours that are used throughout each copy of the magazines, there is a running pattern of dull, dark adn black colours that represent the rock/punk genre, with some red, yellow and blue colours to show a sense of indie.
Anything interesting..
There are a number of, what shall I say, unsuitable pictures of women that are added in to the magazine and it still seems to be aimed at women in generally at the same time.
