Target Audience, Ideology and Representations. 
When creating a music magazine, it is very important that it targets a certain genre of people, so that the magazine is successful and appeals to them. This will ensure that an audience will buy it, read it and like it.

The use of colour, font and images can represent on the type of the genre that the magazine is aimed at. A prime example is having dark, dull colours like black and grey, which would inventional be used witihn an indie/rock magazine, neithertheless colours such as gold, yellow and blue represent more of an rnb/pop magazine. The images below from the following magazine 'Kerrang!' indicate the representation of a Rock genre and the second example 'Top of the Pops' indicate the representations of a Pop magazine.

When thinking about the genre Rock, it is always thought of as an anti-social and violent genre, that always produces music that is loud and aggressive. This can then mean, that a cover of a Rock magazine would use dark and dull colours, with big, bold shattered fonts, which displays a sense of aggression. I also think the cover will be cluttered with sell lines, tag lines (and maybe bursts) to show a sense of loudness, which would attract the reader. On top of this, many rock artists express their feelings and emothions through there lyrics in their songs,  soI think there is a commercial side to include some these on the front cover, to attract readers. and promote the magazine.

  

When considering Pop music, I think it is thought of as innocent and social, nothing displayed in Pop magazines or the music is seen as bad or unsuitable. So for this reason I think it would be clear that the magazine would be brightly coloured, with plenty of pictures and tag lines, which pormote certain things. Pop music isn't displayed as being loud and aggressive, its more linked to happiness, love and relationships. I think therefore this means that the magazines will be less cluttered, will look simply and pretty. Pop magazines are seen as innocent as they have next to none sexual references and swearing, which gives me the impression that the model or artists that are shown on the cover are looking happy  and enthusiastic. As music magazines are made to sell and make money, it is clear that the front cover is the most important features to attract the reader, so to do this it is important to give the target audience what they want. Many people that like Pop music, are most attracted to the artists, so by having an attractive model on the front cover I think will attract the reader.

Ideologies

Ideologies are around the idea of a group of people that have certain beliefs or ideas about something in particular, this means that different genres of music have different ideologies, which therefore can affect how they are represented. For example, Pop and hip-hop/R&B show very different ideologies as they have many different ideas behind them. When it comes to Pop, there is a strong idea of being positive, non-violence or abrasive, however when it comes to R&B/Hip-Hop, you get a sense of negatitive behavour, associated with drugs, violences, sex and being agressive.
